W: Failed to fetch http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/lucid-updates/multiverse/source/Sources.gz Something wicked happened resolving ‘in.archive.ubuntu.com:http’ (-5 – No address associated with hostname)

E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

This Showed me a error “No address associated with hostname” in all the line.

Then I tried all the possibility to update Lucid Lynx.

I was using Proxy Internet connect and I didn’t touch any settings.

Proxy is working fine and able to browse all website in the Internet.

Then suspect it has nothing to do with proxy .

Even when i manually exported HTTP proxy: http://myname:mypassword@proxy Port: 8080 , apt-get update was not working.

After a long search using my friend google, I found that we had to acquire http proxy in apt.conf file

Then I just added a line in /etc/apt/apt.conf

Acquire::http::Proxy “http://myname:mypassword@proxy:8080″;

after that it worked charm!

verman@verman-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get update
Hit http://in.archive.ubuntu.com lucid Release.gpg
Ideally, the goal is to get rid of all flicker during startup.

This new system makes Ubuntu boot much faster.

Applications – New and Improved ones

Simple Scan – An application that makes scanning documents quite simple.

PiTiVi Movie Editor

Gwiber – A microblogging client with support for Twitter, Identi.ca, StatusNet, Facebook, Flickr, Digg, FriendFeed, and Qaiku.

Me Menu – A menu that resides in the top panel of your GNOME desktop and which provides one click access to all your social networking and chat accounts.

Nautilus – The default file manager, it has seen many minor enhancements, the most prominent being a split view mode which allows you to display the contents of two different folders within the same window.

However, GIMP is out of the default list of installed applications. No one is stopping you from installing it separately though.

iPhone and iPod Touch Support

Ubuntu Lucid Lynx (10.04) comes with limited support for iPhone and iPod
Touch devices which is a good thing for the owners of these Apple products.

Now you can browse the contents of your iPhone and even play music residing on these devices from Ubuntu.

Ubuntu One – Cloud Storage

Ubuntu One – Cannonical’s cloud storage service is seamlessly integrated in Ubuntu 10.04. Some of the integration features are listed below.

When we launched Mozilla Labs four years ago, we set out with a bold
vision of innovating in the open – inviting the wider Mozilla community
to imagine, experiment and build the future of the Web. Today we take
the next step in this journey. We invite students, faculty staff,
schools and universities from around the world to join us, and explore
ideas, concepts and prototypes in the open.

“Laboratories are
where science and creativity meet to develop, research, and explore new
ideas. Mozilla Labs embraces this great tradition — a virtual lab where
people come together to create, experiment, and play with new Web
innovations and technologies.

Everything is
possible here. Crazy ideas and sparks are encouraged as together we
explore and experiment with brand new ideas in whole new ways. Mozilla
imagine the future of the Web, and then let’s build it together.”

Together through Mozilla Labs we have collectively explored thousands
of ideas, mocked up concepts, built prototypes and launched products.
We built programs to encourage participation from designers, worked with
dozen of universities and ran Design Challenges
with thousand of entries from all over the world.

In the last 12 months we collaborated
directly with universities in the US, Brazil and Australia to integrate
Design Challenges into the curriculum – ranging from week-long
workshops to courses designed around the challenge. Over the course of
the program Mozilla Labs staff provided feedback and an open forum for
students to collaborate, explore and learn.

In the next few months, we plan on rolling out new tools to aid
better discussion and collaboration on ideas, run a series of regular
“spotlights”, where we present and discuss new and exciting concepts. We
want to work directly with students, schools and universities to
explore innovation on and for the Web.

Hubs, switches, and routers are all devices that let you connect from one computers to other computers, networked devices, or to other networks.

Each has two or more connectors called ports into which you plug in the cables to make the connection.

Hub :
A hub is a small, simple, inexpensive device that joins multiple computers together. Its job is very simple: anything that comes in one port is sent out to the others. That’s it. This is quick and easy ways to connect computers in small networks.

Hubs operate using a broadcast model

Switch :
A switch is a small hardware device that joins multiple computers together within one local area network (LAN). a switch generally contains more intelligence and a slightly higher price than a hub. switches are capable of inspecting data packets as they are received, determining the source and destination device of each packet, and forwarding them appropriately. For example, if it sees traffic from machine A coming in on port 2, it now knows that machine A is connected to that port and that traffic to machine A needs to only be sent to that port and not any of the others.

switches operate using a virtual circuit model.Switching involves moving packets between devices on the same network.Switches operate at layer 2 of the OSI Model.

A switch is able to determine where a packet should be sent by examining the MAC address within the data link header of the packet (the MAC address is the hardware address of a network adapter). A switch maintains a database of MAC addresses and what port they are connected to.

Router :
A router is a small hardware device that joins multiple networks together. These networks can include wired or wireless home networks, and the Internet.A simple way to think of a router is as a computer that can be programmed to understand, possibly manipulate, and route the data its being asked to handle.

Routing involves moving packets between different networks. Routers, on the other hand, operate at layer 3 of the OSI Model.

A router is able to determine where to send a packet using the Network ID within the Network layer header. It then uses the routing table to determine the route to the destination host.
