It’s installed by default in Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 and works fabulously!
Totem Movie Player now includes a plug-in for searching and playing You Tube videos without leaving the player and without Flash.
The You Tube plug-in needs to be activated before you can use it. In Totem’s Edit menu, select Plug-ins to open the Configure Plug-ins dialog and click & tick the You Tube plug-in to enable and then close the dialog.
The You Tube browser runs in Totem’s sidebar.
If the sidebar isn’t open, enable it by selecting View->Sidebar.
Click the sidebar’s drop-down box to select the You Tube view.
It takes a minute for the plug-in to load search results.
Totem will not play You Tube videos because if you do not have the appropriate plug-ins to handle it.

After installing the appropriate plug-in you can enjoy playing You Tube Videos in your desktop.
